Becoming a doctor is a dream for many, given its status as a noble profession that also brings affluence. Hence, there is a rush of candidates seeking admission into the top medical colleges every year. To select the best,  colleges follow rigorous screening procedures that help detect the cream.

Prerequisites for Top Medical Colleges

The first prerequisite for getting admission in top colleges is to score well in subjects such as general biology, chemistry, physics and calculus. Candidates can enroll themselves in pre-medical schools to enhance their prospects. Other requirements for getting into the top medical colleges are:

  • High Grade Point Average (GPA): Most of the colleges require candidates to attain at least 3.5 GPA for applying. That is, getting into top medical colleges would require a higher GPA. Whatever their preference, candidates must always strive for the best achievable scores.
  • Understanding the field closely: To experience what you will be doing in your future, candidates can volunteer at a clinic or hospital and learn from a doctor while assisting him. Assist in research to gain practical experience. This experience will help the candidate take informed decision regarding their choice of career.
  • Medical College Admission Test (MCAT): Prepare for the MCAT, a computer-based exam, with the help of preparation books and classes. This test has four sections i.e. biological and physical sciences, and writing sample and verbal reasoning.

A candidate’s selection into the best colleges is decided by the MCAT, Science GPA and overall GPA.
